Good questions

Frequently asked

New to Cub Scouts? Here are the things families ask us most. Still not sure about something?

Ask us a question
How much does it cost?

The first-year cost for one new Scout is $270: a $170 Scouting America registration fee ($85 national and $85 council) plus $100 in Pack dues. Pack dues are $80 for each additional Scout. Pack dues include a Class B T-shirt, Pinewood Derby car, materials for weekly den activities, and registration and food at most campouts. Scout Life magazine is optional for $15, and the Class A uniform is preferred but not required; families purchase it separately if they choose to get one.

How much time does it take?

We meet on Wednesday evenings, averaging about three meetings a month during the school year. On top of that there is an assortment of weekend day activities, and a few weekend camping trips across the year.

Do we need a uniform?

Families purchase the class A uniform — registration fees and pack dues don't cover it. The pack does provide one class B t-shirt for each scout. The class A is available at the Scout Shop.

Do parents stay?

Yes — Cub Scouts is a family program. A parent or guardian participates alongside younger scouts, and families are always welcome.

My child is older — can they still join?

Absolutely. Kids can join at any grade K–5 and jump right into their den.

Do you have to be a certain religion or gender?

Cub Scouting is open to all boys and girls in grades K–5. Pack 429 welcomes families of all faiths and backgrounds; we are non-denominational.
